May 15th Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio

Today’s full moon is exact at 25˚18’ of Scorpio.

With the South Node just 3 degrees apart from this culmination point at 22 degrees, we’re deeply stewing in the eclipse cauldron.

In PDT, the chart for this full moon eclipse lands Sagittarius on the Asc, and therefore places the eclipse points in the 6th/12th house axis.

The 6th / 12th houses entertain a conversation between the micro and macro. It is a dialogue between the grind of daily details (6th), and the ambiguous mystery and dissolution in the collective or personal (sub)consciousness (12th). As polarized as they may seem, they demonstrate a divine balance point between matter and spirit and the codes of completion that they each offer one another.

Our mental, emotional and psychic wellness is deeply linked to the energy that we have - or don’t have - for daily responsibilities, body nurturance, and quotidian agreements. If one of these areas of life is not well-tended and brought into awareness and intentionality, we lose the equilibrium necessary for holistic wellness.

The wellness of our deep and invisible inner plane determines the sustainable health of our external obligations and capacity, and vice versa. The more personal mastery that we exercise in keeping healthy lifestyles and personal practices, (and by that, I do mean the lifestyles that are aligned to and integrity with your personal needs), the more peaceful our invisible landscapes can become…

The axis of Taurus - Scorpio is concerned respectively with stabilization and transformation, embodiment and catharsis, and together they explore the principles of Eros and the life-death cycle.

With the Scorpio full moon in the 12th on the SN, this could be a confrontation point with unconscious emotional tendencies that are disrupting your ability to stabilize and cultivate a healthy lifestyle. It’s not easy to see what takes place in the 12th, and Scorpio as an archetype operates under the radar. At its best, this poses an opportunity to purge any emotional debris that is hidden in the attic of your life. Be mindful of how intense, emotional, spiritual, mental or psychic blindspots can take a physical toll.

And “Taking a toll” is a turn of phrase that merits some pause.

Because if you are not making conscious “payments” towards your physical wellness and spiritual evolution (there’s that lifestyle theme), it’s likely these payments will unconsciously be made for you, perhaps in more uncomfortable or edgier ways than you would have liked to opt into. The toll will be paid in some part of your life. It might be such a tiny trade-off that you don’t see its impact at first, but over time, this lack of attention can culminate in major imbalances in physical or mental health.

Pardon the tired example - but drinking and substance abuse is a good metaphor for this.

If you have unprocessed grief, and instead of ritualizing or therapeutically engaging your grief, mask it with alcohol, it’s likely that your lack of direct payment toward your grief (perhaps through meditation, therapy, ritual, or creativity), will eventually manifest in health issues, or difficulty in work or relationships.

As a ceremonialist and ritualist, I’m fond of the idea of playing with how we can make payments and what we make payments to.

In the days following the wet, subterranean earthscape of this eclipse portal, make room to talk to your invisible self.

(Eclipse portals are not time for ritual. Give it three days and then take the opportunity to explore the themes that arose for you.)

As a part of your reflection, you may ask yourself:

“What invisible part of myself is ready to be released so that I can be in better health?”

…and then just listen for a response. Voice memo it. Write it down.

Then, continue the prompt with another question:

“What can I offer this part of myself as a parting gift?”

Think in gentle ritual terms.

Maybe you offer this part of yourself water, to wash them clean.

Perhaps you offer them flowers as a symbol of your appreciation for their presence in your life.

Maybe you have a sacred fire, write a story about this part of yourself, and let it transform into ash in the flames (of your well-contained fire!).

There’s always an opportunity to engage different parts of ourselves with consciousness and curiosity. Making art out of these engagements is the creative power of ritual.

A few final notes…

Eclipse energy is volatile by nature, and this one happens not too far away from Uranus at 15˚ of Taurus. Uranus is the electrified, mad, revolutionary inventor, but this erratic being is more interested in dynamic propulsion than pre-meditated transformation. Paired with the volatility of the nodes, it’s unlikely that the learnings and revelations from this eclipse will come gift wrapped. Watch out for careening insights and twists of fate, and in the meantime, find your internal still-point. It’s never a bad practice.

It’s also important to highlight that the Sun and Moon during this eclipse are in a T-Square to Saturn. These are long-legged strides of history that are taking a turn with this eclipse. Whether on the personal or collective level, our inquiry with this eclipse must also include intergenerational and ancestral themes. It’s possible that the hidden part of yourself that is ready to be released was something inherited.

If you’re curious how this all lands in your own chart, take a look at the houses in your chart that contain Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius. This will give you a good idea of the life-areas that this eclipse is activating for you. Also, take special note of whether or not you have planets in the later degrees of these signs, as they will be big players in your personal eclipse show.

With love,
Ophilia
